The Human Serum L-FABP ELISA Kit is for the quantitative determination of human L-FABP in serum, plasma, urine, and cell culture supernatant. L-FABP is a low molecular soluble protein (14kDa) expressed in the hepatocytes of the liver, the proximal tubule in the kidney, and enterocytes in the intestine. Due to its small size, FABP leaks rapidly out of ischemically damaged necrotic cells leading to a rise in serum levels.
L-FABP is a sensitive marker for cell damage of liver cells in vitro and in vivo making it a good option for use as a NASH biomarker or DILI biomarker.
NASH: Serum L-FABP levels are elevated in NASH and have been shown to correlate with the degree of fibrosis and inflammation. L-FABP levels may aid as a non-invasive marker in determining the severity of fibrosis and inflammation in research with NASH.
Toxicology/DILI: L-FABP has also been recognized as a biomarker for safety testing in DILI research. L-FABP has superior characteristics regarding tissue distribution and kinetics compared to ALT.
