The RAPIT COVID-19 lgM/lgG Test Kit is intended for the qualitative detection of IgM and IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, for research use.  This test can be used with human plasma, serum, fingerstick whole blood, or whole blood.

In response to infection with SARS-CoV-2, the human body produces anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies that function to detect pathogens, promote immunity, and provide protection against the virus. The presence of antibodies to SARS-Cov-2 in blood samples are indicative of immune responses to the viral pathogen.  IgM antibodies can be detected in blood samples within days following SARS-CoV-2 infection and function as a primary response to infection. IgG antibodies have important functions during antigen detection and are abundantly produced in response to SARS-CoV-2 infection.

The RAPIT COVID-19 lgM/lgG Test Kit is a valuable assay for the detection of IgG and/or IgM antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 antigens, which can indicate acute or recent infection.  This test kit provides rapid results within minutes of test administration and is a useful tool during the research of SARS-CoV-2 immune responses and serological population surveys.

RAPIT COVID-19 lgM/lgG Test Kit Contents Include:

  • Mixed gold-labeled recombinant SARS-CoV-2 antigens
  • Quality control protein labeled conjugates
  • Two test lines, pre-coated with anti-human IgM (M) and anti-human IgG (G) antibodies
  • Control line, pre-coated with an antibody against the quality control protein

When the sample is applied to the test strip, gold-labeled recombinant SARS-CoV-2 antigens bind anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgM and/or IgG antibodies found in the sample, forming antibody-antigen complexes.  The antibody-antigen complexes are then immobilized by the anti-human IgM and IgG antibodies located on the test lines. The immobilized antibody-antigen complexes are detected by the sample diluent that flows downward, giving a purplish red color. The control line is an internal control and should always appear when the test procedure is performed properly. Absence of a control line indicates either an error with the assay technique or a faulty device.

Interpretation of Data:

Positive for COVID-19 antibodies:  A test is positive if the control line (C) visually appears along with any visible test lines (M/G)

Negative for COVID-19 antibodies: A test is negative when the control line (C) visually appears with no other visible test lines.

Invalid Result: A test is invalid if the control line (C) is absent. The assay should be repeated using a new device.
