NASH kNOWledge is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation that was established to increase public awareness of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) and Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH). NASH-Now’s geographic focus is Pittsburgh tri-state area, though they are looking forward to partnering with other organizations across the country with similar goals. NASH-Now’s target audience is the general public and those newly diagnosed with NAFLD and/or NASH.
The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney diseases estimates that 100 million Americans have NAFLD and that 20-25% of those have NASH. These diseases are particularly insidious because there are typically no symptoms associated with its onset and most people who have NAFLD and NASH don’t know it. As incidences of NAFLD and NASH continue to grow, experts anticipate a 60+% increase in NASH by 2030. Principal risk factors include diabetes and obesity. NAFLD / NASH are a silent epidemic.
