June 8, 2023 is International NASH Day. NASH Day raises visibility and urgency around fatty liver disease and its more advanced form, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and NASH have few outward symptoms, and patients are often undiagnosed. However, recognized risk factors that are associated with NASH include obesity, type 2 diabetes, and hyperlipidemia. There are currently no approved pharmacologic therapy options for treating NASH. Promoting visibility and improving early detection are important steps to reduce the global prevalence of this disease.
